Field Review: Olympus E-5 (Day 4)

So far in the review we’ve found out that the Olympus E-5 is a tough cookie from Day 3, that the raw image files are very versatile, and we’re beyond the first impressions. But the E-5 has a much sexier side to it. There are art filters built into the camera. The chart above can be clicked on (and shared) to show off the effects on one image. This will literally be nothing else but a huge image dump with other samples from each filter.

Field Review: Olympus PEN E-P2 (Day 3)

For those who do a lot of night shooting, ISO control is important. The reason being is that the higher the ISO the more light is taken into the camera—however the trade off is you sometimes get a lot of noise, or what I like to call “snow”. I just ran a simple exercise of placing the Olympus EP-2on my tripod, set the camera to full auto and just raised the ISO with each shot I took.  As you can see from the photos below the noise becomes noticeable at ISO 1600, and at 3200 it just looks like a mess.

Olympus E-PL1 is Apparently Official

The camera in the teaser campaign picture that I said looked very familiar to the original prototype I photographed is apparently all official and such according to Gizmodo. The camera is aimed more at beginners and enthusiasts as this can be told by the price point of $599.99 with the M. ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm f3.5/5.6 Zoom Lens. The camera, in terms of specs, sounds almost identical to the EP-2.
